what is "art"?

What I believe that makes somthing art is time and effort. Something that looks like time was put into it and also expresses how you feel about what you have created. It also has colors that express your moods. Also art is something you created and not anything you took from someone else and call it your own. What makes art is thinking of making art. You cannot make art without thoughts of making it. You have to use shapes, lines, often times you can or cannot use color but to me those are the main things. Which are also apart of the element of design. Art is different from non-art because you can put anything on a paper and call it art which it isn't, to me it may be just scribbles but to others its art. The scribbles may have meanings to them but that can just be found by over analyzing. The qualitys art must have mainly is effort, time, and it would b best to have a passion for it because you can have true art if your heart is into it.
The role mood and symbols play in my definition of art is pretty much everything. The mood in art will determine how the person was possibly feeling while he or she was creating their art. If the person is happy the easiest thing for them to create is happy things rather then creating something mad which they are not. If you are mad and you are drawingyou may create something bad or evil or something symbolizing insane or hate which goes with your mood because that is how you feel. Art can be very easy to do when you are in a certain mood because your art will symbolize how you feel.
The role art plays in my life personally is the art of music and poetry. Music has art that has to do with emotions, struggle, life, hate, love and a lot more. All of that comes from howit plays in my life because music and poetry are somewhat the same and they both express the exact same things. I am around music everyday and poetry I write when mad, sad or happy so these are the main things and art has things to do with emotion, anger, hate, love and so on. Art can teac you more then literal media because I feel literal media is somewhat propaganda and just makes people seem bad when they aren't and also makes some people seem good when they aren't. It gives you one sided opinions on how they think you may like what they say and tell you what they think instead of telling you the truth. Art on the other hand can give you all sides and you get what you want from it instead of being fed things you don't know that is true or not.
The qualities I will have in making my "art" is having emotion and effort. Without any of that I have nothing in my opinion because with effort mainly is what makes good art. Well if it is my standards of art whatever I do to me may be art and how ever I do it is art to me because I'm going to do it the way I feel art is.
Honestly I did not go threw anything to find my definition of art but just hard thoughts do to you asking because this is the first time I've been asked about what art is to me so I don't have much experience telling what art is to me. The way I chose what I wanted to look at tosay is art is what I'm mainly around which is graffiti and that is art because time is put into it and thought and also shapes, color, lines, and it symbolizes a lot from what you may look at in it. My ideas and thought on art have remained the same.

this is art to me. i believe this is art because it is has alot to do with value, shape, color, and form. the value of this can be high due to the colors they use to make this. the colors i see in this are rare and hard to make together. the shapes of the people and the graffiti under it are spectacular. he shapes have to do with the graffiti writing where one of the guys are pointing too. the shape in that takes time to create and thats real art when time and effort is put into it.
this evokes much emotion because the shadows in the background are shadows of people. the emotion is concealed and dont want to be seen while one of them is showing the middle finger which gives much emotion of probably hate. also the way the eyes are shaped shows emotion of anger probably of police because that is one of the main things poeple of graffiti do not like because they take away from theyre work by arrest or buffing their work.(bufing: is painting over with primer).
this can make you think about why the characters may be mad or why the guy is using the midle finger. why they use so many mixed colors on the characters. why are there so many peole with gas masks on. that can be ovious because it can be used to conceal the face and to make sure they dont inhale the spray paint.
this is VERY unique ion my eyes. this shows so much and takes time and effort to make art as good as this. this makes you think and wonder why the artist uses light colors to put off a kind of angry message from how the characters look in their faces. people find this may not be art but they dont have the eyes for graffiti. they think graffiti is like tagging and those are different. this is basically art but just using letters and characters. there are so many things that can be described as art and this is most definitely one of them.

In order for me to translate my arguments into n image I for one had to find an image that helped me show that Obama is good. I also got a picture of the white house so that it shows he is president and that the government will be there for the people since he is in the white house and the government has to support the one in the white house. He is also talking into the microphone to show that he has the voice to change things for a better tomorrow.

Another one is Uncle Sam and he has a bag that is the U.S flag. He also has soldiers and aircrafts that are around him with lettering saying “stand up for your freedom. It is here for you. Work inside the system.” I use this one because one of my pro arguments talks about how you should work within the system and that it is here for you.

The specific photo shop technique I used was layer masking. Layer masking helped me a lot because using that helped me make a picture as if Obama was behind the white house when he was in fact not behind it. It helped me make the picture look as if it was a picture professionally made I believe because it looks as if Obama is behind the white house. I believe that layer masking is one of the best photo shop techniques to be used because it can do wonderful things in the picture to make it look professional.

Choosing the images I chose didn’t make it so difficult because I jus grabbed two photos that I thought may be good in a picture together and tried to work with just that. I think I ended up doing well and it benefited me the most. The other picture I just pretty much added a lot of extra things to it such as, raindrops to make it seem kind of blurry and unreadable, I added a couple of U.S writings, I added work inside the system and its here to protect you so it can relate to my argument. Im not sure if this may have a big impact on the audience because I don’t feel what I may have to say will really benefit them in the way I think it benefits me. It benefits me because it helps me for later in the future because I wish to become a politician.

In the Obama one it shows how you should feel he is a very strong speaker and he is on top of what he has to do and what he will o because he is on top of the white house. The other one I would say is just a subliminal message saying that the government is good it is here to protect you and you should fight for it because it fights for you. I also believe using Uncle Sam helps you make that kind of statement as if the governrnent is something you should fight for because every time you see that you think of the picture “I want you” to join the army type of picture. That makes the message I was trying to send that much easier.

Artist Statement
1) The style elements I took from the example campaign ads was the one with Obama had the mushroom cloud behind him. i used something similar to that because i thought of McCain and how his thoughts on war is positive. so seeing your example ad helped me think of a good ad for me to make using McCain.
2) The main tools i used to help create my AD's was layer masks. The layer masks helped me alot with the pictures because what i would need had a lot of unnessicary things around the pictures. using the layer mask helped take everything out that i did not need and keep the main image in the picture i wanted.
3) the main changes i made was to take everything around the photo of McCain and Obama out so it would just be a picture of the Running presidents. i dont think i would change anything because i feel that i did everything good to my standards.
